Abstract | A UBV photometric investigation on the previously unstudied metal rich globular cluster NGC 6352 was carried out at the Cerro Tololo Inter-America Observatory with the 60-inch reflector. Twenty three stars were observed photoelectrically an average of 3 times to apparent magnitude V=15.49. With this sequence 220 stars were calibrated photographically. A tendency of "double" giant and horizontal branches is observed. The fainter of the two "horizontal branches" is interpreted in terms of upper main sequence stars. The apparent distance modulus is (m-M)_app = 14.80. The adopted reddening is E(B-V) = 0.44. If we use A_V=3E(B-V) the true distance modulus is (m-M)0=13.48. The distance is 4996 pc from the Sun and 606 pc from the galactic plane. The giant branch rises 2.0 mag above the horizontal branch at (B-V)o=1.4, characteristic of a highly metal rich object. |
