AbstractA UBV photometric investigation of the Southern Globular Cluster NGC 2298 was carried out at the Cerro Tololo INter-Americans Observatory using the 1.5 m reflector for the photoelectric and the photographic work. Fourteen stars were observed photoelectrically to apparent magnitude V=16.22. With this sequence, 60 stars were calibrated photographically. The apparent distance modulus is (m-M)app = 15.70. The reddening is E(B-V)=0.08. The true distance modulus is (m-M)o=15.46. The distance is 12.36 kpc from the Sun, 3.54 kpc from the galactic plane and 18.72 kpc from the galactic center. The gian branch rises 3 magnitudes above the horizontal branch at (B-V)o=1.4, characteristic of a metal poor object.
