Abstract | Color-magnitude diagrams (CMDs) for the southern globular cluster NGC 5927 are obtained from 248 stars measured photographically and calibrated on the basis of a photoelectric sequence of 28 stars to a limiting V magnitude of 17.2. The composite CMD is found to contain a flat giant branch and a stubby red horizontal branch and to have the metal-rich features typified by 47 Tuc. Analysis of the giant branch indicates that the reddening is different in two distinct sectors of the cluster field. Metallicity parameters for the NW sector are derived which corroborate the metal-richness expected from the cluster's integrated spectral types and colors. NGC 5927 is determined to be 7 kpc from the sun, 0.6 kpc from the galactic plane, and 4.9 kpc from the galactic center, for an assumed solar galactocentric distance of 8.75 kpc. |
